Exam Photo & Signature Size 2026: IBPS, NEET, JEE Main & SSC (Verified From Official Notices)
Half the 'photo size for NEET/JEE' pages online quote numbers that don't match the official bulletins. We checked IBPS, NEET UG, JEE Main and SSC against the actual documents — here are the real limits, and a free tool that makes your files fit.
When we built exam photo resizers for our free tools site, we started the way most people do — by searching. The numbers didn't agree. One popular page said the NEET signature must be 4–30 KB; the official bulletin says 10–100 KB. Another said the JEE Main photo can be up to 300 KB; the bulletin says 200 KB. So we went to the official documents for every exam and read the numbers ourselves. Here is what they actually say for the 2026 cycle. Always check your own notification before submitting — limits can change between cycles.
IBPS (PO/MT and similar CRP notifications)
Photograph: 200 × 230 pixels preferred, JPG, 20–50 KB, recent colour photo on a light background. Signature: 140 × 60 pixels, 10–20 KB, black ink on white paper, in running handwriting — signatures in capital letters are rejected. Left thumb impression: 240 × 240 pixels at 200 DPI (3 × 3 cm), 20–50 KB. Handwritten declaration: 800 × 400 pixels at 200 DPI (10 × 5 cm), 50–100 KB, in English, in your own handwriting, with the exact wording from the notification. NEET UG 2026 (NTA)
Passport photograph: JPG, 10–200 KB, with about 80% of the image being your face (no mask, ears visible) on a white background. Signature: JPG, 10–100 KB. Left and right hand finger and thumb impressions: JPG, 10–200 KB. Certificates such as Class X are PDFs of 50–300 KB. Tool: NEET photo size resizer.
JEE Main 2026 (NTA)
Photograph: JPG, 10–200 KB, colour, 80% face (no mask) including ears, white background. Signature: JPG, 10–100 KB. Class 10 certificate as PDF, 50–300 KB. A live photo is also captured. Tool: JEE Main photo size resizer.
SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD and others)
SSC now captures your photograph live inside the application, so the one file you prepare is your signature: JPG, 10–20 KB, about 6 cm wide by 2 cm high. Tool: SSC signature resizer.
Why small files get rejected too
Most people struggle to get a photo *under* the limit, but the minimum catches people out more than you'd expect. A clean 140 × 60 signature saved as a high-quality JPG is only about 3 KB — well below IBPS's 10 KB minimum — and the portal refuses it. Lowering quality makes it smaller, not bigger. Our resizer handles this by padding the file with harmless metadata so it reaches the minimum without changing a single pixel, and tells you it did so.
Tips that save a re-upload
Photograph your signature on plain white paper in daylight; the resizer whitens grey or shadowed paper and crops tightly to the ink. Use a pen with a firm line — very thin strokes can fade when compressed to 10–20 KB. For the photo, use a plain white or light wall and keep your face filling most of the frame. And don't reuse an old photo for NEET — the bulletin asks for one taken recently.
